Tonight marks the penultimate instalment of our 2020 Virtual Presentation Evening(s). 🎙
Yesterday brought a close to the prizes presented for specific competitions played throughout the year, which means tonight we move onto our Captain's Special Achievement Award. 🏆
This award was introduced back in 2018 by then Club Captain, Liam Ridgill. It launched following Liam's success at that years England Golf Awards where Liam was named Young Ambassador of the Year. During his acceptance speech, Liam described how his achievements were only made possible by the support and dedication of his fellow members at Drax. The idea is that each Club Captain selects and presents the award to a member who is deemed to have been a shining light throughout the year and for going above and beyond to raise the profile of the club.
Earlier this week, we caught up with 2020 Club Captain, Steve Simpson to find out who he had chosen to receive this year's award.
"My Captains Special Achievement Award for this year goes to Christian Townend. Since Christian joined Drax in 2019, he has been nothing but outstanding in his support of every part of the club. The time spent by Christian helping the green staff with his vast knowledge of the specialist machinery and being able to assist with getting parts as and when required has been exemplary. This help has meant that our fleet has been able to run at its best throughout the season. I know how grateful Mark and his team are for his assistance in this area.
Christian was a massive help with my Captains Day. Not only did he provide a great stand trailer for me to greet people, but he put in lots of work behind the scenes during his own time. Christian went above and beyond to arrange the loan of additional machinery in the run-up to the event for Mark as his team to ensure the course was looking and playing its best. Similar hard work and dedication continued throughout the season by assisting Mark by using his contacts to benefit the club. I know the committee is very grateful for everything he does; this award is just a small token of appreciation for all his hard work.
