Andy Ritchings stormed to a double medal win in May and Matt Graves kept in touch with a medal win and a superb 7 under par round to win the prestigious Elvin Dickinson Memorial trophy. Elvin would have been amused to note one of his successors Mark Sneap was pipped by 1 shot in a high quality competition.
Other medal winners in May included Geoff Rankin, Phil Skilbeck and the rejuvenated Terry Robinson. The senior competitions saw Dave Potts sweep up the Seniors Cup and the ever competitive Neil Hathaway picked up the senior medal round.
May is the quietest month in the club’s calendar whereas June is possibly the busiest with competitions every weekend and several during the week. Andy Ritchings continued his stellar season with repeat victories in both the Monthly and the midweek medals. Other medal winners in June were Stephen Taylor Heath and Drax CC opening batsman Luke Edwards, taking a day off from normal Saturday duties! Kev Hughes and Roger Norman ensured Thorne had good representation on the honours board in the midweek medals.
Liam Waite from Selby retained his overall Club Championship with another pair of excellent rounds, although he was pipped in the 2 qualifying individual competitions. Craig Shelton made an excellent 65 nett in the Des Richardson trophy, while Will Brown shot another fine 65 in the afternoon’s Fairfax Plant Hire trophy. Liam also beat the field in the Tigers Annual Shield, while on the same day Nick Hamilton scored his first Drax victory in the Rabbits Charity Shield.
The senior section had a busy month with Michael Cooper topping the monthly Senior Cup round after a long absence from the winner’s circle! Keith Richardson overcame his nemesis 3rd hole to win the Medal round for June and Steve Fitt maintained his form to win the prestigious John Davies Shield. The seniors also held their annual Captains Day in June with the captain Matthew Forde just edging out Alan Beaumont and Alan Dean to win the trophy which was presented by Club Captain Dan Mitchell.
Dan held his own Captain’s Day on the scorching final Saturday of June. With over 70 players braving the heat to help raise money for the Rheumatoid Arthritis Charity, Jordan Barton led the way with a solid 40 points, just squeezing out Neil Tams and the consistent Craig Shelton.
