Drax Golf Club are very happy and excited to announce that our bid to join the North East Rabbits Golf Association (NERGA) has been accepted!
This year NERGA (16 to 28 handicap) had 35 Clubs divided into four zones. Over 550 players competed as individuals and within their Club team for a place in Finals Day at Ramside Hall in October to become NERGA Club and Individual Champions.
The purpose of the Association is to promote high handicap golf throughout the North East:-
NERGA – 16 -28 handicap.
INTER – 8-15 handicap.
The aims are to provide competitive and enjoyable golf for all high handicap golfers, and to generate good income for participating member clubs.
Drax have been investigating the possibility of joining the association for nearly two years, working closely with Chris Woodcock of Boothferry Golf Club to ensure we has a successful bid.
Our Captain Liam Ridgill submitted the application to NERGA in October and was invited to attend the AGM at Darlington Golf Club on Sunday 25th November to present to existing member clubs and explain how Drax would host the event.
After the successful presentation, Liam said; "This is a fantastic opportunity for Drax Golf Club and it's members, and also shows the continuous ambition of the club to move forward and expand into new areas. I hope that this move will help encourage existing members in the NERGA handicap bracket to engage with more competitive golf. While at the AGM I explained our ambition to also join the INTER league in 2020 and thus expand our offering to all of our membership brackets."
Competition dates are yet to be finalised, however you can look forward to dates being published for KP Club, Malton & Norton and 6 more clubs in the North Yorkshire / East Riding Regions.
