Drax Golf Club recently held its annual presentation night at the Sports and Social club. There was an excellent number of members present with most of the major trophy winners available to collect their awards.
The evening started on a sombre note with a minute’s silence being held for members who had died this year including founder member and club President Trevor Griffiths. Matthew Forde, the retiring Senior Captain, then took to the floor to summarise his year in office before presenting his successor, David Littlefair, with his 2017 jacket. This was followed by Club Captain, David Smith, who after presenting gifts to members who had helped him during the year, and thanking the green staff for their efforts on the course, passed the captaincy to Kevin Harrison who also received his jacket.
The first awards for the Ladies Section were then presented by David Smith. Denise Robinson was once again a multiple winner, although Jenny Hammond and Denise Smith also won two trophies each in the knockout competitions. Matthew Forde was then back to present the Seniors with their awards. The star performers this year were David Minto, Neil Hathaway and David Littlefair.
With the presentation in full swing, David Smith returned to present the trophies to the major Men's winners. Among those receiving trophies were Alan Beaumont Jnr., Matthew Forde, Ken Harrison, David Minto and Mick Rollason. The scratch singles was won by David Gisbourne. Also in the spotlight were the Medal Final winners, David Minto, Steve Simpson and Dave Lawson. Alan Puddyford and Steve Sutton shared the honours in the Club Championship, Alan won the Gross event and was just pipped by Steve in the Nett competition. The evening, however, was dominated by Dale Banks who won the Knockout Singles trophy and 3 other major tournaments. The presentations were concluded with the prestigious Golfer of the Year going to Dale who received a standing ovation from his colleagues to cap a tremendous year.
Finally, the Club launched the annual raffle to win a year's free membership which will be drawn at the Captain's Drive In in March. The club is also offering a '15 months for the cost of 12' deal which runs through to January. All details can be found on the club's website, draxgolfclub.com.
